Spencer Tunick Campaigns For 'Naked Sea' Installation At The Dead Sea

If installation artist and photographer Spencer Tunick gets his way, the Dead Sea could become a nude beach by the end of the year. This would only be temporary, of course, and the bathers wouldn't be there for that perfectly even tan. Tunick started a fundraising campaign on Wednesday for his "Naked Sea" installation, which would place the artist's trademark army of nudes in the salty sea between Israel and Jordan. Tunick, who hopes his project will bring greater visibility to the shrinking body of water, occasionally devotes his installations to social causes, including a recent work in Sydney, Australia in support of gay rights. The fundraising campaign runs through June 6 on Kickstarter, and hopes to overcome Israel's “sensitivities... toward displaying the body in art."
