Dying Texas Professor Gives Lecture From Hospital Bed

In his 45 years at LeTourneau University in East Texas, Professor William Kielhorn hadn't missed a single class. So he wasn't going to let a stint in intensive care break his record.

Instead, the 79-year-old Kielhorn, who is in the advanced stages of colon cancer, decided with his family that he would hold class from his hospital bed.

ABC News has more:

With his perfect attendance at risk, Kielhorn reminded his oncologist at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, Texas: "I have class tomorrow at 3 o'clock."

That's when his daughter, Martha Croft, and granddaughter, Courtney Bellamy, came up with a plan and started making arrangements for Kielhorn to give his last class via teleconference from the hospital.

About 15 students tuned into the lecture, which was titled "Manufacturing Processes."

LeTourneau University plans to rename an engineering welding lab after Kielhorn, KLTV reports.
