Google is celebrating the 117th birthday of dancer Martha Graham with an amazing animated doodle on the Google home page.
Graham was born in 1894 and became known throughout the 20th Century as a pioneer of contemporary dance. "Her dance style was angular, with fierce pelvic contractions and time spent on the floor," writes the Mirror.
At the time of her death in 1991, the New York Times heralded Graham as "a revolutionary in dance."
Created by Ryan Woodward, the logo comes to life as moving figures twist, turn and leap, spelling out out G-O-O-G-L-E with their body movements. Each letter represents a major contribution by Graham to the art of dance in the 1920s and 1930s. A post found at the Martha Graham Center for Contemporary Dance explains the motions seen in each letter of the animation and their impact on the craft.
