In the strange world of animals, it's hard to top the giant Japanese salamander in the category of creepy-looking. Animal Planet "River Monsters" host Jeremy Wade shows how he captured one of the beasties.

Giant salamanders use sensory cells on their skin to detect vibrations in their watery environment.

Growing to 5 feet in length, these slippery creatures rarely leave the water, instead sticking their heads out of the water to grab some air.
