Rick Santorum 2012 Presidential Campaign Launch Coming Soon

Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum is expected to announce his candidacy for president of the United States the week of June 5, according to multiple reports released on Tuesday.

CNN reports:

...Santorum is committed to participate in the first Republican presidential debate in New Hampshire. That event, which is co-hosted by CNN, WMUR-TV and the New Hampshire Union Leader, takes place June 13 at Saint Anselm College.

Santorum participated in the first GOP presidential primary debate of the election season in South Carolina earlier this month. Back in April, the former senator announced the launch of a presidential exploratory committee.

The AP relays background on Santorum and his political ambitions:

Santorum is a favorite of social conservatives and represented Pennsylvania for two terms in the Senate. He has been busy laying the groundwork for an expected presidential campaign for months. He lacks the name recognition and organization of his better-known rivals.

But social conservatives, who hold huge sway in the early nominating contests in Iowa and South Carolina, are far from settled on a preferred candidate in a field that lacks a clear front-runner.
