Tesla Coil Music: 'Girl Talk' Played In Electricity (HD VIDEO)

Tesla coil music isn't necessarily something brand new, but a project of this magnitude is surely impressive.

The Open Spark Project (OSP), which is responsible for the video below, took things to the next level using these two giant coils to mimic the notes of DJ Girl Talk's "This Is The Remix." The result is as dazzling visually as it is musically.

Tesla coils don't serve any practical function according to PopSci, but are capable of some incredible applications like this. They essentially work by building up a charge in their coils and releasing it after the terminal capacitor (the bulb at the top) is fully charged. The resulting bolt of electricity jumps to the nearest, most conductive material. The resonance of the coil makes the charge much more powerful than it would normally be.

In this case it's a conductive rod. The frequency of the bolt of electricity produced actually creates the sound. It's kind of like fine-tuning a bolt of lightning.

The result is almost magical. OSP has simulated a series of songs like this one, including Lady Gaga's "Poker Face."
