Westchester Funnel Cloud Reportedly Spotted In New York

Accu Weather reported Thursday evening that possible funnel clouds were spotted in Westchester County, New York, just north of New York City.

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for eight counties in New York and New Jersey.

In particular, the National Weather Service warns that "strong thunderstorms will impact" the New York City boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island as well as Hudson, Southern Essex, Southwestern Nassau and Union counties.

FREQUENT CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING...SMALL HAIL...AND GUSTY WINDS UP TO 50 MPH ARE EXPECTED WITH THESE STORMS. IN ADDITION...VERY HEAVY
RAIN...WITH RAINFALL RATES OF UP TO ONE INCH AN HOUR...IS OCCURRING WITH THESE STORMS. THIS COULD CAUSE PONDING OF WATER ON ROADWAYS...AND MINOR FLOODING OF POOR DRAINAGE AREAS.
