'Fake' Fat May Actually Lead To Weight Gain

Did you think eating fat-free foods that contain "fake" fat could help you with your weight loss goals? A new animal study suggests that the answer is no.

Researchers from Purdue University found that mice fed potato chips containing the fat substitute Olestra, in addition to regular potato chips, ate more and gained more weight than mice that were just fed regular potato chips, according to ABC News.

That's because "fake" fat makes our bodies think that we are about to consume fat, thereby prepping for the intake of calories, ABC's WMAR station reported. But when the calories never come, our bodies become confused and our metabolism is thrown off.
