16-Pound Baby Born: JaMichael Brown Could Be Largest Newborn In Texas State History

16 Pound Baby Born In Texas

Little JaMichael Brown isn't your average baby.

Born Friday at the Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, Texas, infant JaMichael weighed in at an astounding 16 pounds, one ounce, the Longview News-Journal reports, making him the biggest baby the hospital has ever seen and possibly the heaviest ever in Texas.

Father Michael Brown and mother Janet Johnson knew the the child would be a big one, but at twice the average newborn weight, JaMichael's size was certainly unexpected.

"I can't believe he's that big," Johnson told the News-Journal. "A lot of the baby clothes we bought for him will have to be returned. They're already too small for him to wear."

The hospital nursery didn't even have diapers that fit JaMichael, who is two-feet tall.

JaMichael has spent his first days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to regulate his blood sugar, but overall he is healthy, CBS affiliate KYTX reports.

How big is possible cause for concern? According to Babycenter.com, over 9 pounds and 15 ounces is considered "much larger than average."
