An illegal vodka distillery in Linconshire (UK) exploded last week, resulting in the instant death of five men. An additional man was severely burned. The victims were using potatoes from nearby farms to make moonshine.
The blast was heard up to five miles away, but the exact cause of the explosion is still not known.
This is not the first time counterfeit vodka has been found in the area. Earlier this year, vodka that had the potential to blind drinkers was found. Ingredients such as methanol, which is highly toxic, are often used in these illegal operations—and can result in death for those who drink the vodka, often unwittingly.
