Manchester United began the 2011 Community Shield brightly and finished aflame thanks to an extra-time winner from Nani. The Portuguese winger's relentless effort sparked a chance from the smoldering ashes of a Manchester City attack. With strength and pace, Nani won the ball at midfield and charged down the center of the park before beating Man City keeper Joe Hart to slot home.
Despite seeming tentative in the early going, Manchester City grabbed two goals late in the first half to take a shock 2-0 lead into the intermission. Sir Alex Ferguson's boys, and in this game the Reds' youth was on display, never lost the plot. United attacked in waves in the second half, with Nani and Chris Smalling giving the match a fresh start with strikes early in the second half.
From there, United's continued pressure came to nothing as the match moved into extra time. Moments before the match would have gone to penalties (there is no overtime session in the Community Shield), Nani stamped himself as the Man of the Match with this majestic finish.
