In less than a week, there have been three armed robberies in Boulder -- all by what victims describe as an armed bicycle riding male. Boulder Police believe the crimes may have been committed by the same person.
7News reports that in the latest robbery on Tuesday, Aug. 16, a 40-year-old woman returning home around 11 p.m. saw a Hispanic man in his 20s riding a bicycle through the parking garage in which she was parked. The man circled around and pointed a handgun at her, lifted the bottom of her dress to view her underwear, grabbed her wrist and placed her hand on his groin. The assault was interrupted when the attacker was startled by a sound someone made in the garage causing the man to flee the scene on foot.
This was the first of the reported armed bicycle robberies that became sexual in nature.
Detectives are investigating two other armed robberies in Boulder involving suspects described as a young Hispanic male riding a silver or red bike. One that took place earlier in the week on Aug. 15 along the Boulder Creek path during which three women were robbed of their purses and the attacker fired his weapon as he rode away. Another that occurred on Aug. 11 along the creek path near the campus Recreation Center, according to The Daily Camera.
The victim in the latest robbery attempt describes the man as in his 20s, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, with short “spiky” hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and riding a beach cruiser style bicycle, according to The Denver Post.
9News reports that Boulder Police are increasing patrols, especially in the Boulder Creek bike path area. Authorities are asking anyone who sees anything suspicious to call 911.WATCH:
