Don't soccer players just do the darndest things?
Towards the end of a match between Montevideo and Danubio in the Uruguay Primera Division, Montevideo defender Diogo took exception to a call that resulted in him receiving a red card. After the red card was issued, a pair of Diogo's teammates walked up to the linesman who had informed the referee of the infraction and calmly asked for an explanation.
When it became clear that the level-headed approach of his mates wasn't yielding positive results, Diogo quickly intervened and decided to employ an alternative means of getting his displeasure across: Sucker punching the official.
Whatever South American soccer referees are paid, it's likely not enough because this is hardly the first case of a referee being attacked by an angry player... this month.
A video made the rounds earlier this month of a Brazilian soccer player kicking a referee. A few days after that an Argentinean referee was forced to flee the field and scale a fence after being attacked by an entire team.
There has to be an easier way to make a living.
