Google's 13th Birthday: Doodle Celebrates With Cake And Presents (PICTURES)

Google Celebrates Its 13th Birthday

Google celebrated its 13th anniversary on September 27, when the search engine's home page featured a simple, birthday-themed doodle.

Google usually celebrates its birthday on September 27, although that date is somewhat flexible and has been known to change. "[T]he Google.com domain was registered on September 15," notes The Telegraph. "The search engine officially celebrates its birthday on September 27." According to Mashable, the company went incorporated on September 4, 1998.

On Tuesday, Google marked its anniversary with a scrapbook-style doodle featuring the company's logo letters dressed in a birthday hats and sitting around presents and a birthday cake. The party scene takes place in a homey setting, decorated with streamers and balloons.

Though Google's homepage logo tends to sport a subdued doodle on the company's birthday, Google's eclectic doodles are often quite ornate, some are even interactive. In fact, several days before its birthday doodle appeared, Google.com celebrated the late Jim Henson's 75th birthday with a lively and entertaining doodle of muppets in motion.

Given the complexity of some of these doodles, Google's birthday logos tend to look pretty simple by comparison. This year's birthday logo is Google's most detailed so far.
