Make no mistake about it. The 19-year-old Neymar is a phenom. The Brazilian forward is being courted by the biggest soccer clubs in the world. In fact, several reports came out on Monday claiming that Neymar had signed with Real Madrid after he was spotted at a Sao Paulo hospital last Friday. Neymar had to hold a press conference on Monday to announce that he hasn't made a deal yet.
"I have been sold like 30 times," he said. "Every day I’m being sold to a different club. Today I’m saying once and for all that I’m not leaving Santos right now."
On Wednesday, Neymar flashed some of the talent that has made him so coveted while also showing that he still has room to improve. Playing for Brazil against rival Argentina, Neymar scored the second goal in a 2-0 Superclassico victory. However, he squandering another scoring opportunity later in the match when he couldn't knock home a beautiful cross that found him directly in front of goal. As Brazil attacked the net, Neymar ran on to a pass just steps from goal. He looked as if he beat the closest defender to the ball, but the pass skipped right by him and out of bounds. Neymar lifted his shirt in disbelief, but the feeling didn't last long as Brazil would hoist the Nicolas Leoz trophy later in the evening.
