The site of the infamous witchcraft trials of 1692, Salem has long been a magnet for the weird and wicked. Though witches and wicca-philes flock here year-round, Halloween is an especially magical time to visit this picturesque Massachusetts town. During the month of October, Salem kicks into full ghoulish gear, with a jam-packed roster of Haunted Happenings that include outdoor carnivals, seances, ghost tours, haunted ships and mansions, and the official Salem Witches' Halloween Ball. Don't miss historic Derby Square, which bustles with witchy activity.

Echo Hill Orchards And Winery
Spending a crisp autumn day picking pumpkins and apples is a classic New England pastime. Cap it off with a spooky haunted hayride and kick off the Halloween season with flair. At Echo Hill Orchards and Winery, kids' cheeks will get rosy from the October air, while their parents' will be tinted pink from sipping local wine. Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast And Museum
Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her parents 40 whacks... and courageous vacationers can spend a night in the house where the grisly murders allegedly occurred. Built in 1845, the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast and Museum is a twisted tribute to one of the country's most notorious female murder suspects, who was ultimately acquitted of murdering her father and stepmother in cold blood. Crime-scene photos and staged mannequins add a creepy twist to the B&B's otherwise charming decor.
