Introduction To The Culinary Institute Of America

For 60 years, The Culinary Institute of America has been setting the standard for excellence in professional culinary education. In the Kitchen Basics video series, experienced chefs and educators show you how to tackle essential cooking techniques.

In this video, Eve Felder, Associate Dean for Culinary Arts at The Culinary Institute of America, talks about The CIA's history, facilities and star alumni.

Hello, my name is Eve Felder and I am the Associate Dean for Culinary Arts at the Culinary Institute of America. The CIA was founded in 1946, primarily as a training school for veterans returning from World War Two. Today the Culinary Institute of America is an independent, not-for-profit college offering bachelor's and associate's degrees, as well as certificate programs in Culinary Arts, and Baking and Pastry Arts.

As the world's premier culinary college, the CIA has more than forty thousand alumni, including Cat Cora, Anthony Bourdain, Todd English, Duff Goldman, Sarah Moulton, Charlie Palmer - and countless others.

The college's main campus is located in Hyde Park, New York. We have more than forty professional kitchens and bake shops, as well as five public restaurants that are staffed by CIA students. The CIA also has campuses in Saint Helena, California, in the Napa valley, and San Antonio, Texas.
