Phillies Vs. Cardinals LIVE UPDATES: Roy Halladay, Chris Carpenter Pitch In Game 5 NLDS

If you told the Phillies at the start of the 2011 MLB season that they'd be able to give Roy Halladay the ball at home in a winner-take-all game to advance to the NLCS then they surely would have signed on the dotted line. Tony La Russa's Cardinals would likely have taken a similar deal that set them up with Chris Carpenter on the mound in such a game, even if they were going to be on the road.

So, both teams should be feeling pretty good about tonight's matchup? Right. Mostly. Because the fact that the Phillies' hitters have to face Carpenter while the Redbirds must try to solve Halladay means that no one can be too confident. With two of the game's best pitchers toeing the rubber to start, this decisive games has all the makings of a playoff classic.

Stay tuned here for live updates throughout both games and tweet to @HuffPostSports to join in the conversation.

Howard grounds to Punto who is on grass in shallow right. He tosses to Pujols and it's over.
