A suburban Chicago man was killed Sunday evening when he stripped down naked and walked into the roadway after rear-ending another vehicle on the Tri-State Tollway in Worth, Illinois.
Daniel Thompson had been driving a black pickup truck on the northbound lanes of the tollway when he struck another vehicle and hit a guard rail near 95th Street just before 6 p.m., according to witnesses. After the truck came to a stop, he reportedly took off all of his clothes and walked into traffic, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Thompson, 35, was struck by a van and pronounced dead on the scene. Three other individuals in another vehicle, which had swerved to avoid the crash, have been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Police have not yet determined what motivated Thompson to wander into traffic, but investigators are currently looking into whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the fatal collision.
