It was a celebrated Off-Broadway play, then a book and CD, and now it's a major motion picture.
Mike Birbiglia's "Sleepwalk With Me" will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2012 as part of its non-competitive "NEXT <=>" section.
The film, co-written and directed by Birbiglia, chronicles the comedian's real-life struggles with intimacy, adulthood, and a particularly troubling sleep disorder. The stage play of the same name received rave reviews and was championed by producer Nathan Lane.
Additional cast includes Lauren Ambrose, Carol Kane, James Rebhorn, Cristin Milioti.
The "NEXT <=>" section of the Sundance Festival "encompasses a selection of pure, bold works by promising filmmakers distinguished by an innovative, forward-thinking approach to storytelling." Birbiglia's inclusion in the section should prove a welcome next step for the comedian/actor/writer, who developed his signature story-driven performance style in New York City's comedy scene.
No trailer for the film has been released as of yet, but until then, here are a few stills from the movie as well as some clips of Birbiglia telling stories from the live show.
