Gingrich Launches Michigan Campaign With Grassroots Support

Gingrich's Michigan Campaign Looks To Broaden Support

Marisa Schultz/ The Detroit News

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich will form a grassroots campaign in Michigan, buoyed by his rise in the national polls ahead of Michigan native Mitt Romney and the opportunity to woo supporters of former candidate Herman Cain.

Unlike Romney, son of the former Michigan governor, Gingrich doesn't have paid staff, top level endorsements or an established campaign infrastructure here, but supporters of the former speaker of the House are building a steering committee of volunteers to spread his message, saying it won't take the same level of resources to challenge Romney in his home state because Gingrich's message is already resonating here.
