Mothers Working As Phone Sex Operators For Extra Cash

More Mothers Working As Phone Sex Operators, Strippers, Prostitutes

Thousands of mothers in the United States are currently earning extra income by working as phone sex operators and a rapidly increasingly number of moms are following in their footsteps, earning between $10 and $50 per hour to entertain the sexual needs of men over the phone, Good Morning America reported in a segment on working moms in the phone sex business.

The number of mothers pursuing sex work has increased by 400 percent over the past 18 months alone, according to Rat Race Rebellion, an organization that specializes in finding jobs for mothers who need to work from home.

Good Morning America interviewed Chris Durst, one of the founders of the organization, who said that the primary reason for the spike is the poor economy and the higher availability of jobs within the sex industry.

"I've applied to probably 20 to 30 jobs at like Walmart or Subway or a fast-food place," 22-year-old Aubrey, the mother of a 3-year-old son, told Good Morning America. "I just haven't gotten picked up in my area."

As the sluggish economy leads more Americans to lose their jobs, other areas of the sex industry are attracting more workers at increasing rates as well. Employers at strip clubs and other adult entertainment services began receiving more of applications from women drawn to the quick cash and flexible hours, MSNBC reported in 2009.

Gus Poulous, the general manager of New York City's Sin City gentleman's club, told MSNBC he received 85 responses to a job he posted on Craigslist that day.

In Portugal, a nation in deep economic recession amid the debt crisis, mothers are turning to prostitution in order to feed their families, work made all the more dangerous in the thick of Europe's dangerous human trafficking networks, IPS News reported.

Job seekers looking for work in the adult entertainment industry may want to head to Williston, North Dakota. As thousands of men move to the town to take advantage of an oil boom, strippers are reporting that they can make between $2,000 and $3,000 in tips, according to CNNMoney.
