The increasing proliferation of available outlets with which to celebrate, lampoon, meme-ify, discuss, and criticize every aspect of culture has officially managed to merge two worlds that used to remain largely separate. We likely have the internet to thank -- the high and low ends of the culture spectrum are now so blurred that it's difficult to know when culture mavens are supposed to turn up their nose, and when they're supposed to dive right in and enjoy themselves. It's been happening for the past few years, rather quickly, but 2011 was likely the year that high met low with the most glaring alacrity. And we're not saying "low" is anything to shake a stick at -- we were right there with you.
