Savannah Guthrie celebrated her 40th birthday on Tuesday's "Today" show, and host Matt Lauer did more than just present his fellow co-host with a cake.
After announcing her birthday at the top of the show, Lauer showed viewers photos of Guthrie through the years, starting at age three. He had photos blown up on large pieces of cardboard, and asked Guthrie about each photo just before a birthday cake was brought on air.
"Apparently there's a budget shortage, we couldn't come up with candles," Lauer said of the cake. "I was going to say, do we have a match? I'd like to light these pictures on fire," Guthrie responded.
Lauer has joked with Guthrie on air before. Earlier this month, Lauer called out Guthrie after her iPhone started playing music during a segment.WATCH:
