American Tourist Drowns At Infamous Aruba Beach

An American tourist has drowned at the now notorious, tranquil Aruban beach where Robyn Gardner went missing in August.

The Aruba Herald reports that 911 was notified of a drowning at Baby Beach on Friday evening. San Nicolas police rushed to the scene, where they found tourists with medical training giving CPR to 48-year-old Jing Wei. She was put in an ambulance shortly thereafter even as her frantic and distraught husband went into shock. She was declared dead a short time later at a nearby hospital.

According to the Herald, the couple had come to Baby Beach as part of a tour group and were staying at the Holiday Inn Resort. The drowning is being investigated, but there are no signs of foul play.

In August, Gary Giordano claimed that his traveling companion, 35-year-old Robyn Gardner, had been swept out to sea at Baby Beach while snorkeling. His claims were met with suspicion and he was jailed pending further investigation by Aruban authorities. Giordano was released 116 days after being imprisoned when investigators failed to produce substantive evidence.
