Creeper Shoes: The Stylelist 7 (PHOTOS)

PHOTO: Would You Wear These Shoes?

Creepers are back. Once known as "Brothel Creepers," due to the thick-soled boots that World War II soldiers wore in the desert...and then later in European nightspots. They were the footwear of choice for London's "Teddy Boys" in the '50s and punks in the '80s. Take for instance Burberry wunderkind Christopher Bailey who paired his fall 2011 looks with platform creepers. Miuccia Prada sent raffia-soled creepers down the spring 2011 men's and women's runways, igniting a frenzy as editors grabbed their phones to make hasty calls to their personal shoppers. But these kicks aren't just about fashion. The tall rubber soles and sneaker-like upper makes for a stylish, unexpectedly comfortable ride. But beware, these are not shoes for the wary--they make quite a statement and are sure to have people doing double-takes south of your ankles. In the premiere of his new TV series celebrity stylist (and reality darling) Brad Goreski described the Prada creepers as the perfect compliment to just about any look when he said, "You can wear a t-shirt and denim with these shoes and have the best outfit ever." So true.
