Report: Cubs Shortstop Accused Of Sexual Assault

Chicago Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro has been accused of sexual assaulting a woman in her 20s last Fall after a night of drinking at a nightclub, according to WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser.

According to the police report, the alleged victim and a friend returned to Castro's apartment from the bar. The alleged victim claims to have blacked at some point, but awakened to find the ballplayer assaulting her.

Castro's attorneys, Jay K. Reisinger and Michael P. Gillespie, released a statement denying the allegations and calling them "baseless."

The Cubs also issued a statement, via NBC Chicago:

"While this is something we take very seriously, there is not enough information to make any further comment or take action at this time We are hopeful when the facts are brought to light, Starlin will be cleared of any wrongdoing."

Castro, 21, was an All-Star in 2011 and became the youngest Cubs player in 70 years to reach 300 career hits. He batted .307 with 10 homers and 66 RBI this past season.
