It certainly hasn't been pretty. Nor has it been efficient, or accurate, or reliable. But after rising up the depth chart and ascending to the starting lineup, Tim Tebow has quarterbacked the Denver Broncos to the promised land of the NFL playoffs. That just happened. Barely. After all, the Broncos backed in to the postseason tournament after a 7-3 loss in Week 17 to a Kansas City Chiefs team starting the player, Kyle Orton, that Tebow had replaced in Denver.
Bookmakers installed the Steelers as the favorite by more than a touchdown despite having to travel to Mile High. While there is little doubt that the 2011-2012 Pittsburgh Steelers are a better football team than Tebow's Btoncos there is no telling what will happen over the course of these four quarters. Or, knowing how the Broncos have fared this seasons, there is no telling what will happen over these four quarters and the ensuing overtime session.
With the game taking place in Denver, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger nursing that sprained ankle, first-choice running back Rashard Mendenhall out due to injury, the running backs coach back in Pittsburgh after a house fire left him severely burned, and Pittsburgh safety Ryan Clark inactive due to a health condition, the Broncos have as good a chance as they ever will to win this game.
Admittedly, my studies on the requirements for canonization have been neglected lately, but if Tebow adds a miracle win over the Steelers to the miracle playoff berth that he delivered then.. by my math.. he's just one more miracle away from sports sainthood.
Can Tebow lead the Broncos to an upset win? Will the Steelers overcome adversity to advance?
