If your house was on fire, what would you take with you? That is the question blogger Foster Huntington explores on his site, "The Burning House." The blog, which was started after an eventful dinner party in April 2011, asks readers to submit photographs of what they would save: objects range from the practical (such as a passport) to the sentimental (who doesn't want their teddy bear). The process is surprisingly revealing, "People's openness to share intimate details about their lives has blown me away," Huntington says, "The internet is wild in the way that it lets people open up and share with complete strangers details they normally would talk about with their closest friends. A perfect example of this is [Swedish student] Frida Vega's submission which included a photo of her as a young girl with her still born brother."
For his part, Huntginton clearly has his answer ready: "When I first started the project, I had almost thirty items that I would grab. Now after talking to hundreds of people about the idea and seeing thousands of submissions, I would grab whatever cameras I have close at hand, undeveloped film and my external hard drive with all of my photos on it."
