The family and friends of a slain 26-year-old gay Detroit man say they will fight to get murder, rather than manslaughter, charges pressed against the man accused of killing him.
As Detroit-based ABC affiliate WXYZ is reporting, Charlie Hernandez was allegedly killed after he angered two men by stepping on some sunglasses. The fight eventually escalated into anti-gay slurs before someone pulled a knife on Hernandez, who was openly gay and described by the network as "slightly challenged."
"I'm gonna fight it all the way," said his mother Anna. "I'm gonna fight it...for the rest of my life, I'm gonna fight it."
