Ever wish you could just go to a dictionary and look up "cool fashion designers" and a list would appear? Well, a list might not sufficient but a new anthology by Vogue Espana's fashion editor Marta Hidalgo sure is.
Featuring sketches and photographs from established designers such as John Galliano, Catherine Malandrino and Temperly London alongside more up-and-coming designers, "The Sourcebook of Contemporary Fashion Design" spans a wide spectrum. Hidalgo explains, "Our objective is to showcase the finest work of a select group of responsible fashion designers to demonstrate how they keep an eye on our ever-changing society." She asked each designer to explain their inspiration, which is seen through photographs of draped muslin, sketches, collages and mood boards. This exciting insight into the design process shows how exactly a design makes it from a twinkle in a designer's eye to its final form on the runway.
Who will be the next John Galliano? Only time will tell, but Hidalgo's astute thoroughness assures the success of those designers present in her book.
