On Thursday night's episode of "NY Ink" (Thurs., 9 p.m. EST on TLC) three survivors of a near-catastrophe, the crash-landing of US Airways Flight 1549, a.k.a. "The Miracle On The Hudson," got tattoos together to commemorate the experience.
As the tattoo artists worked on applying ink to their bodies the survivors recounted what had happened on that day in 2009. In moving testimony they described what it felt like to know that the plane was about to crash and to think they were about to die.
Beth told the artists how it took just a few minutes to safely evacuate all the passengers and crew from the stricken plane
The Costa Concordia cruise ship tragedy in Italy was uppermost in many viewers' minds watching this episode. In stark contrast to disgraced ship Capt. Francesco Schettino, who now faces criminal charges stemming from his conduct, the pilot of Flight 1549, Capt. Chesley Sullenberger was hailed as a national hero for his conduct.
"NY Ink" airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. EST on TLC.
