Before Gingrich was announced the winner of the South Carolina primary, he appeared in a testy interview with Fox News on Saturday morning.
"Fox and Friends Weekend" host Dave Briggs asked Gingrich about the Romney campaign requesting the former Speaker of the House to release his congressional ethics report. Briggs said that Romney was perhaps taking a page out of Gingrich's campaign playbook, since his campaign has been asking Romney to release his tax returns.
When Briggs asked if he would release portions of his congressional ethics report that were not published online, Gingrich responded by criticizing the Romney campaign. He said, "Don't you sort of admire the arrogance and dishonesty of the Romney campaign? They can't release their tax records...he can't even answer coherently on a debate...but their answer is to attack me for not disclosing?"
Gingrich said that 900 pages of his congressional ethics report were publicly available online. He then addressed Briggs directly and said, "Romney's released zero and you're asking me to take seriously a challenge about openness from Romney? Come on, even in the news media, you ought to have some sense of balance."
As co-host Clayton Morris jumped in and tried to defend the question, Gingrich interrupted and said, "I'm just saying as a reporter, don't you have some sense of balance? Isn't 'fair and balanced' part of the Fox..."
Morris said that Briggs was phrasing the question from the Romney campaign. Gingrich chuckled and said, "OK."
