UK Military Wives Chorus Tops Charts, Gives Proceeds To Charity

One group of everyday women proves you don't need celebrity members or highly-trained voices to win a top spot on the singles chart.

Military Wives Chorus, founded by TV Choirmaster Gareth Malone, released their first single and earned the No. 1 Christmas single spot in England, with proceeds benefiting charity, BBC reports.

The group is made up of 100 spouses of the U.K.'s military. According to Billboard nearly all the proceeds from their hit single, "Wherever You Are" will benefit two charities: the Royal British Legion, and Soldiers, Sailors, Airman and Families Association.

But the Military Wives Chorus isn't stopping there -- the Telegraph reports that the group is hoping to make an even larger impact next.

“We would love to do an album," Sam Stephenson, the lead vocalist for the group, told the news source. "That would be fantastic.”

"Wherever You Are" was written with the words of love poems they had sent to and received from their husbands, with music composed by Paul Mealor. In a single week, 556,000 copies were sold, with 63 cents for every physical copy of the CD sold and 78 cents for every online purchase of the single donated.
