CNN's Jim Acosta has been named a national political correspondent for the network. CNN made the announcement on Monday.
Previously, Acosta served as a correspondent who reported from the field. He covered the 2010 midterm elections and the 2008 presidential election.
Acosta will now join the network's national political team, focusing on the 2012 presidential campaign. He will cover the 2012 Republican primary race, presidential debates, and the political conventions.
CNN's Washington bureau chief and senior vice president Sam Feist said of Acosta, "he has emerged as one of the key reporters on the campaign trail and his astute reporting skills will only help to position the network to dominate this important election cycle."
