More witnesses are expected to testify today in the trial of former UVA lacrosse star George Huguely V for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Yeardley Love.
Huguely, 24, has been charged with first degree murder and other offenses in connection with the death of Love, who was found lying face down in a pool of blood in her off-campus apartment in May of 2010. Love, 22, was a a senior at UVA and a fellow lacrosse player.
Yesterday, in opening statements, prosecutor Dave Chapman claimed that Huguely allegedly emailed his ex-girlfriend Love with the message "I should have killed you" shortly before her death. Huguely was reportedly upset she was seeing someone else.
Huguely's defense attorney, Francis McQ. Lawrence, characterized the murder as a tragic accident averring that Huguely had "no intent" to kill Love.
