Thieves broke ground at a pet cemetery in France and nabbed a dog's diamond collar from its grave.
Tipsy the poodle's shiny collar was somewhat of a myth among residents of the French town of Asnieres-sur-Seine, but police confirmed the existence -- and disappearance -- of the diamond band after thieves disrupted the dog's resting place on Feb. 4, the Agence France-Presse reports.
The black poodle belonged to the wife of an American industrialist and was buried in 2003.
More than 3,000 animals are buried in the pet cemetery, including canine movie star Rin Tin Tin, according to the report.
Tipsy might have been buried with an $11,000 diamond collar, but the pup's band seems like a steal compared to the world's most expensive dog collar. Featuring 1,600 hand-set diamonds and a 7-carat centerpiece, the collar is valued at $3.2 million.
But maybe donning a diamond-studded collar isn't all its cracked up to be. The real money seems to be in outliving your owner.
Gunther IV, a German Shepherd, became the world's richest dog thanks to a $124 million inheritance from German Countess Karlotta Liebenstein.
But Tommaso the cat still may have the best rags to riches story of any pet.
The stray black cat used to walk the streets of Rome before Maria Assunta, an Italian widow, rescued him, ABC News reported. When Assunta died, she willed $13 million in property and cash to the lucky feline.
Now the world's third-richest pet, Tommaso has to live in secrecy to avoid being targeted by criminals.
