The Chicago man who police arrested after witnessing him drop-kick his kitten, then signal a "field goal," has been sentenced to 90 days in jail for one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty.
Percy Love, 22, told officers that his cat, Nightmare, who is less than a year old, "is tough, we play like that all the time," later adding: "It's just a cat." Officers witnessed the the cat sail 15 to 18 feet in the air after Love kicked him in late January, and immediately took the man into custody.
The cat was treated for injuries but was in good condition after the incident, and was put up for adoption.
Cook County Circuit Judge Tommy Brewer sentenced Love to 90 days in Cook County Jail, the State Journal-Register reports.
Love will get credit for 37 days already served, but he won't regain custody of the cat upon release, MSNBC reports.
Nightmare, has been adopted, and renamed "Avery," by a family with multiple pets, Cherie Travis, Commissioner of Chicago Animal Care and Control, reported on her Facebook page.
"[Avery] is doing wonderfully with his new family which includes dogs and cats," Travis wrote.
