A wild fight between students and police officers at a Manhattan high school was caught on tape on Thursday, DNAInfo reported. (See video above.)
At the beginning of the two minute-plus long clip, uploaded from a mobile phone, a cop can be seen restraining what appears to be a female high school student as a group of other teenagers crown around and yell raucously. The situation then devolves into a full-blown melee, as officers and students shove each other while dozens of students jostle to join in or get a view of the action.
At one point, it appears police officers are struggling to help a student on the ground. Soon after, one or more students strike an officer as his partners try desperately to maintain order.
According to DNAInfo, the fight broke out about 11:15 on Thursday at Murry Bergtraum High School, one day after another fight, in which two 15-year old boys attacked a 16-year-old boy.
Such incidents are not uncommon at the school, which is the most overcrowded in the city.
As Gothamist notes, there was a large-scale fight similar to Thursday's in 2010, after Murry Bergtraum's principal took away bathroom privileges (a punishment for yet another fight).
As a result of Thursday's brawl, six students have been issued summonses for disorderly conduct, and another for assault.
