This week saw a number of cute animal videos, including several of puppies attacking mirrors and videos of ducklings following their mother.

It was revealed this week that a horse in England named "Shayne" may be the world's oldest at the age of 51. The horse, which only has a few gray hairs and mild arthritis, lives an easy life at a sanctuary in Essex.

Oregon's lone wolf, OR-7, returned to his home state this week after wandering through California for several months, according to AP. He was the "first known wolf in California in 87 years."

166 gray wolves were killed in Montana's first wolf hunting season since federal protection was lifted last year. Reuters reports that Montana's wolf population "still managed to grow by 15 percent in 2011." The number of wolves killed during the hunting season fell short of the state-set quota of 220 wolves.

This weekend saw the start of Alaska's famous Iditarod sled dog race. Mother Nature Network's Russell McLendon breaks down some of the animal cruelty controversies behind "the Last Great Race on Earth."
