A New Mexico mother is under arrest for slashing her children's throats with a box-cutter. The alleged motive: The devil made her do it.
Sherry Kay Resser, 39, of Santa Fe, is facing several felony charges, including two counts of attempted murder, two counts of child abuse and one count of tampering with evidence, according to Santa Fe police.
Resser was arrested Saturday night, after she took her two young boys, ages 6 and 8, Christus St. Vincent Hospital. Resser said the children, one of whom required multiple sutures to repair the gash to his neck, had been attacked by a family friend.
It was not until police received a conflicting story from the children and found the suspected weapon in a trash bin at the hospital that Resser allegedly admitted to attacking her boys with a box cutter.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Resser told police she wanted to kill her children before anyone could harm them or the devil could come take them away.
The boys have since been released from the hospital and placed into the custody of the state Children Youth and Families Department.
Resser is being held without bond in the Santa Fe County Jail. Court records to not list an attorney for her.
