iPad 3 Release Date To Be Announced? What Apple May Unveil At Its Wednesday Event

What To Expect In The iPad 3

Apple is expected to unveil the latest version of its tablet computer on Wednesday, widely rumored to be called either the iPad 3 or iPad HD.

Like nearly every Apple product launch, the company has been extremely tight lipped leading up to the announcement, offering very few official hints of what to expect.

But, true to form, the web has been ablaze with rumors and speculation about what features might be included in the new tablet. Here's a rundown of just a few of those:

Retina Display

PCWorld reports Apple's new iPad could include a snazzy Retina display, doubling the resolution of the iPad 2. The iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPod devices currently have Retina displays.

4G LTE

The new tablet could be Apple's first device to include 4G LTE mobile technology. Bloomberg notes that Samsung, Nokia and Motorola all have phones that use the fourth generation high-speed mobile Internet technology, but thus far Apple has yet to make the leap.

New Processor

The iPad 2 currently has a dual-core A5 processor, but some, like The Verge's Josh Topolsky, expect the new iPad could get a minor upgrade to a dual-core A5X processor. Others, like iMore's Rene Ritchie, speculated last month that it could get a more robust upgrade to a quad-core A6 processor.

Siri

Right now, Siri, the personal assistant, is only [legally] available on the iPhone 4S. Will we soon get to hear Siri's soothing voice on the new iPad? So far, many believe the answer will be "yes."

Of course, this is all just speculation. We'll have to wait until Apple's event to see what the tech giant has planned.
