Somewhere in Oakland, California, an artist and waiter who goes by the moniker "Super Ugly" started doodling on his guest checks. (In case you're not familiar with the term, guest checks are what you use to take a customer's order in restaurants and diners across the world.)
Not that we ever recommend doodling on the job, but in this case it worked out pretty well. Super Ugly (Mr. Ugly?) gathered up some friends to join in on the fun and they all began using guest checks as a creative outlet.
On his website Super Ugly makes clear his preference for the bizarre over anything precious, and this is evident in the guest check drawings, which range from juvenile sketches to serious examples of good graphic design. See them all here.
