As U.S. Army Ranger Romy Camargo was being honored by the DeBartolo Family Foundation at its fundraising gala, he got another surprise -- a personal "Thank you" from Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow.
Camargo, a Tampa Bay, Fla., resident, was shot in the neck during a combat mission in Afghanistan, leaving him quadriplegic.
The March 10 surprise was coordinated by founder Edward DeBartolo, and Tebow showed up to the gala giving his definition of a hero, Foxnews.com reports.
"For me its so humbling when you see kids and they're like 'You're my hero' and really I do nothing special. Athletes do nothing special," Tebow told the news source. "We play a silly game, but here's someone who put his life on the line for our country -- that's a real hero."
Camargo said he couldn't believe Tebow had shown up, and was glad his wife Gabriela, a big Tebow-fan, got to meet the athlete.
Tebow touted Camargo as an inspiration to many. Of course, with the vet's optimism and perseverance, it's not hard to see why.
"I believe that I'm gonna get up out of this chair, even if it takes me the rest of my life," Camargo told Foxnews.com, "Well, I've got the rest of my life to do it."
