Desperate times call for desperate measures, apparently. A man impersonating a Fayette County, Georgia health inspector is going around to restaurants threatening spot inspections, reports MyFOX Atlanta. Apparently, if the restaurants give him free food, the man backs down.
So far, this phony inspector has hit at least two Waffle Houses. He has not been caught, but faces charges that include fraud and impersonating a public official.
This guy might be learning from several other fake health inspectors that have popped up in the past few years. A few other examples include:
- A man in Glendale, Cali. went to at least four restaurants, trying to get personal information from restaurant owners.
- A fake inspector in Des Moines wanted to schedule a visit -- which included a deposit -- when a real inspector called on the restaurant phone.
- In Knoxville, fake inspectors asked for payment information over the phone.
