Harry Redknapp insists Tottenham are prepared to compete with Manchester United and a host of other top European clubs in order to sign Lille forward Eden Hazard.

The Spurs boss has previously revealed his desire to sign the 21-year-old but concedes he is in the dark regarding any negotiations with Lille over a transfer.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was spotted in the stands reportedly watching Hazard during Lille's defeat at Lyon on Saturday, with the club expected to launch a bid for the playmaker this summer.

Redknapp is also adamant a successful move for the Belgium international would reinforce his side's ambition to consistently secure Champions League football.

"[Manchester] United and one or two others are in for him but I think Daniel [Comolli] is ready to compete with them," said Redknapp.

"If you want to be a top-four team you have got to do that. You have got to push on. The chairman is ambitious, we all are.

"I wouldn't want to be saying he is the best player in the world because Man City or Chelsea might then decide they have to have him."

"Hazard is a talented player with great ability. He can do special things. He is on our list. I watched him last year about three times and I have watched him a couple of times this year."
