'Magic City': Starz Renews Drama Before Season 1 Premieres

'Magic City' Is Renewed Already!

Starz has faith in "Magic City." The cable network has renewed the new drama before Season 1 has even hit the airwaves, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Season 2 of "Magic City" -- a period drama set in a luxury hotel hot spot for mobsters and entertainers starring Jeffery Dean Morgan -- will consist of 10 episodes.

Starz's decision to renew "Magic City " before its series premiere follows its recent model: Kelsey Grammer's "Boss" scored an early pickup before it even premiered. Despite iffy ratings, the show went on to earn two Golden Globe nominations with Grammer taking home the Best Actor award for his work on the series. "Spartacus: Vengeance" was also renewed early.

"'Magic City' is a beautifully written, superbly acted, and visually stunning series, and we feel the quality of the work accomplished deserves a second season," Chris Albrecht, CEO of Starz, said. "It has already been sold in more than 70 territories worldwide, and represents the kind of premium entertainment the Starz brand is seeking to create."

"Magic City" doesn't officially debut until Fri., April 6, but Starz is showing the first episode following the "Spartacus" finale on Fri., March 30 at 11 p.m. ET. The first thee episodes of "Magic City" will also be available across a variety of platforms on Sat., March 31, including the "Magic City" Facebook page and DirecTV.

"Magic City" officially debuts on Fri., April 6 at at 10 p.m. ET on Starz.
