Woman Sets 15 Trash Can Fires In Midtown

Wanted: Woman Ignites 15 Trash Can Fires In Midtown

Police are searching for a woman who reportedly set at least 15 trash cans on fire in Midtown on Monday.

The unidentified woman is believed to be in her 50's. A witness described her approximate five foot figure to The New York Times, “She had a little shopping cart, black jacket, brown pants and brown hat. She was walking up this way. All of a sudden, all the cans were on fire.”

Authorities say the bizarre fires began outside the New York Public Library at 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue around 3PM, with the spree quickly spreading to nearby locations including two fires at the Grand Central subway station.

Three fire engines and two trucks were employed by the fire department to put out the fires.

Fire Chief Mark Rosenbaum said the suspect may also be linked to similar fires stemming from a few weeks ago.
