'Touch': Jake Connects The Lives, Martin Saves A Jumper

Back now for its official series premiere -- though this is the second episode after a preview of the pilot aired back on January 25 -- FOX was hoping a powerful "American Idol" lead-in will lead to continued success for Keifer Sutherland's return to television in "Touch" (Thu., 9 p.m. ET on Fox).

This episode established the "procedural" nature of the story, with another slew of seemingly random lives interconnecting in ways that only the mute Jake can see. His father Martin (Sutherland) then follows the clues with no clear idea of where they're leading. It's a complex structure appreciated by the Vancouver Sun, who says it is "calculated to surprise and delight."

In this case it took him to a pawn shop and a man named Klepper who'd been diagnosed with cancer.

His story ultimately connected with an Indian boy seeking to spread his father's ashes at a New York stadium, a woman at the airport Martin works at, a peanut vendor from the ballpark and the son of the mafia guy the peanut vendor owes money to. Oh, and there's the mafia guy's dog who literally runs throughout the narrative. It's a complex weave, but it culminates in Martin saving Klepper from jumping off a bridge, just in time to find out he's not alone as the woman from the airport runs up, and it's the daughter he thought didn't want to be a part of his life.

Thus weaves the continuing complexity of "Touch" every Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.

TV Replay scours the vast television landscape to find the most interesting, amusing, and, on a good day, amazing moments, and delivers them right to your browser.
