Top 10 North American Destinations For Summer Travel, According To Kayak (PHOTOS)

New data from travel search site Kayak show that Americans are interested in staying home -- or at least in North America -- this summer.

More and more users are searching for domestic flights, Kayak's survey of summer travel searches show, despite the draw of the Summer Olympics and the Diamond Jubilee in London.

Those events are also pushing up airfares across the Continent, sparking interest in domestic trips, the travel site says.

"We’re definitely seeing that the Olympics are causing a huge rise in airfares across the board to many European cities," says Kayak spokeswoman Dinah Alobeid. "And in turn, it seems like this is deterring U.S. travelers away from European vacations this summer."

Kayak says searches for flights to Los Angeles (itself an Olympic city in 1984) and Las Vegas are up 22 and 20 percent respectively compared to this time last year. Other destinations seeing a growth in interest include Maui and San Francisco.

Cancun has also seen a spike in searches despite on-going fears that drug-cartel-related violence will deter tourism to Mexico. In fact, more than 22 million people visited the country in 2011, making it a record-setting year for tourism there.

"From our data, it’s looking like to save money, the majority of U.S. travelers are looking to stay in the U.S. and travel domestically, as well as to the Caribbean," Alobeid adds.

The following are the top 10 summer destinations getting the most search interest from Kayak users.
